Inspired by Cryptopunks
To us, Cryptopunks are the holy grail of NFT collections. They were one of the first and most iconic algorithmically mixed 24x24 pixel NFTs on the Ethereum Blockchain with huge success and high resale values (the most expensive sold in 2022 for 8,000 ETH which was around $23.7M at that time). It inspired the modern CryptoArt movement and many other digital art collections like ours.
To honour these Cryptopunks, our Artus Cognoscenti NFTs connect to some design basics in their style and dimension. The mint is also free and eventually limited to 10k artworks.

1. Use Case
The biggest and most important difference between Cryptopunks and Artus Cognoscenti NFTs lies in their use case. Whereas Cryptopunks are very expensive artworks that work well as status symbols, they don't have any usecase beyond being used as collateral to borrow crypto assets.
Artus Cognsocenti NFTs, however, have a proper usecase beyond being a PFP or artwork only. They serve as membership card that gives access to the Artus universe, including its products and art collection. In short, they a rather an entry ticket to an art collectors community than just an overpriced JPEG.
2. Design
The second and most obvious difference lies in the design. Whereas Cryptopunks are pixel head portraits, Cognoscenti NFTs are "full body" swimming pants.
Furthermore, Cryptopunks are very clearly either male, female, zombies, apes or aliens (presented in decreasing rarity). At Artus, we do not follow such a concept. While we still honour and use these categories, we don't believe in pureness and have therefore for every skin color also mixes in form of flower or stripes patterns (see below).
3. Rarity
The rarer the type or character of a Cryptopunk, the more valuable it is (8 CryptoPunks have no defining attributes, and one - #8348 - has seven attributes). At Artus, we treat all equal and do not differentiate based on rarity. All first 333 NFTs have equal membership rights and value.

Background
All our Cognoscenti NFTs have their preferred environment in which they live. First, we have the Urban dudes ("City" - see 1 & 40) that enjoy the pulse and vibe of big cities. Second, we have the Beach Guys ("Sand" - see 9, 19 & 27) that escape the cities whenever possible. You often see them with a drink in their hand in a fancy Beachclub. Last but not least, there are the real Swimmers ("Water" - see 2 & 4) that take their dates to lonely beaches for swim. All environments are equal at a 33% chance.
Eyes
Oh, I wish I had blue eyes... How nice is it if you can program fairness? There are three eye colors in the first set: Blue (see 40), green and red. They are all evenly distributed with most hidden behind some fancy glasses (see below).
Skin
Honouring the punks, we respect the five different types of skin colours Alien, Ape, F/M Brown, F/M light, Zombie that were invented in 2017. However, with equality in mind, they are all at 20% chance.
Pattern
Every skin colour is unique and beautiful. And, they (hopefully) change from time to time, for example when you get a tan at the beach. At Artus we reflect that with flower (see 1, 4 & 40) and stripe (see 2, 3 & 27) patterns in the five original colours. Some have a tan / pattern as the one mentioned, some don't (see 9 & 19). Simple as that.
Sticker
All of the first 333 Cognoscenti NFTs proudly wear an "A" on their left leg, representing the founding spirit of Artus.
Glasses
Some need glasses to see, some need it for protection and some are just stylers. We can't tell who actually needs it in the examples above. There are 27 different glasses, all of it at 3.6% estimated appearance, expect for bat-bat that is a bit harder to get. And yes, there's always someone that forgets the glasses (Hi 40).
Hair & Hat
We are counting 19 different hair styles, ranging from shaved bald, to snapbacks, to ducks that found their way on Cognoscenti's heads (see 9). 50% bald as above does neither represent expected chances in our mint nor reality...
